The motifs in this book are from a pilot whale killing that took place on the beach of Torshavn 23 July 2010. The photographs are taken by Regin W. Dalsgaard in a few minutes and illustrate the intense struggle between whales and man during a whale killing.
Some of the texts which follow the pictures are from the Whaling Ballad from 1835, which was sung to the Faroese dance on the beach after a whale killing. Other texts are from the book Pilot Whaling in the Faroe Islands, by Dr. Jóan Pauli Joensen, professor, released by the publisher Fróðskapur in 2009. The texts are reproduced with the author’s permission.

Regin Weihe Dalsgaard was born in Torshavn in 1984. Photography has long been Regin’s passion. His favorite subjects are mainly portraits of people and animals, and concerts, and he has worked for international music magazines and Faroese and foreign bands.

Regin is currently training as a photographer at the New York Institute of Photography, where he won a Merit Award for one of his photographs in 2010.
Kristianna Winther Poulsen, MA, Msc, has arranged and translated the texts.
